Abstract

The objective of this study was to compare the machista attitudes of Arequipa university students. In addition, the study intended, to describe the macho attitudes, to recognize at what level (high, moderate, low) they were found, and finally to determine in which gender these attitudes were more frequently seen. For this purpose, the Machista Attitudes Scale (LEYCE) was used, which was developed and validated by Leydi Ramos Sobrevilla and Cesar Enrique Aguirre Cucho (2021). The sample consisted of 436 students from two private universities in Arequipa whose ages ranged from 18 to 28 years old. The results showed that 47.7% of Arequipa university students have a low level of male chauvinist attitudes, while 36% have a medium level and 16.3% have a high level. The data obtained suggest that the macho attitudes were present mainly in males rather than in females.
