Abstract

Research on verbal violence is a subject that does not currently have great social visibility. The present paper investigates perceptions of verbal violence according to the opinions of university students. This study was qualitative in nature and took, as a sample, eight students from a private university in Arequipa. The results indicated that students find verbal violence to be unacceptable, no matter who is the aggressor, as it affects people emotionally and everyone deserves respect. Four fundamental aspects were also identified that allow for a better understanding of the perceptions of the students. These aspects are: the perception of verbal violence, the response to verbal violence, the reduction of verbal violence, and the differentiation of verbal violence by gender, age, educational level, economic level, family history, and relationship with friends.
