About the Journal

Aims and Scope

Illustro publishes original articles in the field of economics, accounting and management. It is aimed at researchers, students, academics and professionals. The journal accepts articles in Spanish or English.

Types of Articles

Illustro receives and publishes the following types of articles:

  1. Empirical research articles. These are usually detailed studies that present original research conducted by the authors, in which methods are specified, results are reported and interpreted, and possible implications are discussed.
  2. Systematic review articles. They usually pose a question, collect data in the form of previous articles (which may be theoretical, methodological or empirical), analyze them and draw conclusions. They use a well-defined methodology for collecting articles in an unbiased and replicable manner. This approach requires a narrow research question. The analysis and interpretation of evidence can be qualitative or quantitative.
  3. Narrative review articles. They usually give an overview of the chosen topic and show how research on that topic has progressed over time or how the topic has been approached from different disciplines or approaches.
  4. Conceptual articles. They usually rely on the assimilation and combination of concepts and theories developed in the existing literature to contribute to the foundations of a field of knowledge. They may be integrative or critical review articles that seek to evaluate, criticize and synthesize the literature in order to allow the emergence of new frameworks and theoretical perspectives. When the subject matter is novel, they may propose initial or preliminary conceptualizations and theoretical models.
  5. Methodological articles. They may outline and critique a new analytical approach or provide a detailed account of the application of a new technique, using some new or secondary empirical examples. They may also examine areas of research that are strongly associated with a particular method, but could benefit from methodological rethinking.
  6. Professional articles. They usually deal with practical aspects, contribute to technological progress and/or communicate new knowledge of the discipline.
  7. Case studies. They describe and analyze a specific individual, group, project, policy, organization, program, system, or other real phenomenon, exploring its complexity and uniqueness.
  8. Book reviews. They aim to describe and evaluate recently published texts. Illustro receives reviews of publications no older than two years as of the date of submission.
